Spring and Summer Conclaves FAQ
1. What are the Spring and Summer Conclaves?
Unlike the Challenge of the Written Word which provides writers with three major goals to complete during the month of November, relying largely on word count, our Conclaves focus on time spent writing instead. To complete the challenge, you must write for one hour every day of the month.
2. How is The Order of the Written Word different from other writing challenges?
Our events focus on celebrating human-driven storytelling and is free from AI-generated content. The challenges are community-based and includes structured phases, dedicated support, and a shared focus on authentic writing.
3. Does it matter if I'm a novelist, poet or other type of writer?
Not at all! Anyone can participate. Conclaves provide a more free-flowing option for creators who would like to challenge themselves and renew their writing practice in the Spring and Summer.

There are no sign-ups, however to join the community you must do so via our Discord server. Once there, you’ll be able to track your progress, connect with fellow participants, and access event resources.
5. Is there a minimum word count requirement?
Not during conclaves. If you spend an hour crafting the most beautiful 30-word sentence during your daily hour or charge through an entire chapter, either is just fine.
6. Can I use previously written work for the challenge?
Absolutely. You can work on anything during our Conclaves.
7. What’s the role of the Scrollwork Sessions?
Scrollwork Sessions are scheduled writing sprints that take place throughout the challenge. These focused sessions are designed to help you stay on track and make steady progress.

We provide a tracking system through our WriterStats bot on Discord. It helps you log your word count or progress in your chosen challenge, and share updates with the community.
9. What kind of support can I expect during the Conclaves?
You’ll have access to a supportive writing community through Discord, participate in writing sprints, get feedback from other writers, and attend optional workshops designed to keep you motivated throughout each Conclave.
10. Can I get feedback on my work during a Conclave?
Yes, community members often share snippets of their work in the feedback channels on Discord. While full manuscript reviews aren’t offered, you’ll find encouragement, input, and advice from fellow writers.
11. Is there a prize for completing the challenge?
If any prizes are offered during a Conclave you will be able to see them listed on our Discord Server and the Prizes page. The inclusion of prizes are dependent on sponsors. If you would like to provide a prize, please get in touch!
12. What happens if I don’t finish the challenge?
There’s no penalty for not finishing. The goal is to push yourself and make progress. Even if you don’t hit the exact targets, you’ll have made significant strides in your writing.
13. Do I have to write every day during Conclaves?
If you would like to complete the challenge as it is set forth, then yes! While our main November challenge is focused on word count and so doesn't push daily writing, the point of our Conclaves is to aim for a daily practice.
