The Challenge of the Written Word

In November, it's time to write! Choosing from three challenges, by the end of the month you should have completed a good chunk of work on a new novel, collection of story or poems, or you will have done one revision on a drafted piece of work.

Challenges

The Challenge of the Written Word offers three different challenges to participate in which cover a variety of goals.

Typing on a Typewriter

The Novelist's Initiation

Aim to write 30,000 words within your current novel. For the bonus task, you can use as many words as needed to complete the first draft of a new novel!

Notebook

The Trials of Verse & Vignette

Choose between writing 15 poems or 8 short stories (1000-10,000 words each). Completing this challenge would be enough to put together a small collection of your work.

Paper Diary

The Refinement Ritual

Focus on revising a draft of your novel, short story collection, or poetry collection. This is your chance to polish and perfect your work.

  • The Refinement Ritual: Revise an existing manuscript, whether it’s a novel, short story collection, or poetry collection.
