After the success of The Stygian Collection, our debut anthology, we wanted to continue creating a space for diverse, creative voices to shine. The demand for more anthologies was clear, and so The Stygian Zine was born—a bi-annual publication showcasing short fiction, essays, poetry, photography, and visual art.

A skull resting on issues of the Stygian Zine

Issue 1: Stygian

The first issue of The Stygian Zine launched with a familiar theme: creators' unique interpretations of the word “Stygian.” To make the release even more special, we offered a variant option—light or dark—so readers could choose the version that resonated most with them. The dark variant was designed by Winnipeg artist Shaundra Ruff, who also designed our original logo, setting the tone for the stories and artwork inside.

This inaugural issue brought together the works of 16 creators from around the world, each exploring the shadows in their own way.

Issue 2: The Witching Hour

In the second issue, we introduced a new theme: The Witching Hour. This issue focused on witches, witchcraft, and all things magical and mysterious. Featuring contributions from 10 creators, it presented an eerie and powerful mix of short fiction, essays, poetry, and visual art.

What’s Next: Slices of Life (January 2025)

The third issue of The Stygian Zine, set to release in January 2025, takes a more grounded approach. This time, we asked contributors to share their day-to-day darkness, weaving horror, loss, and other uncomfortable emotions into the mundane. Whether truthful or fictional, these pieces promise to explore the unsettling corners of the everyday.

Why The Stygian Zine?

More than a publication, The Stygian Zine is a platform for creative expression, supporting our global community of storytellers and artists. By continuing to produce bi-annual issues, we’re keeping the anthology spirit alive while expanding our scope to include more visual and non-fiction works.

Keep an eye out for Issue 3 in January, and get your hands on past issues while they last.
